Intro

At the end of 2021, French electronic pioneers AIR released the Dolby Atmos Mix of their outstanding album „10 000 Hz Legend“ to celebrate its 20th anniversary.

Review

AirThe album, which sold a million copies worldwide when it was first released on May 28, 2001, is a fascinating reminiscence of the history of electronic music even the music history, of course always in AIR’s idiosyncratically beautiful interpretation. 10 000 Hz recalls everything from classic rock of the seventies to synthesizer experiments of the eighties, while also looking into a bright future of digital music.

And even 20 years later, this album is still sounding fresh and new. The Dolby Atmos mix was created with the help of Bruce Keen, the album’s original sound engineer, and sounds intoxicatingly good.

AirThe album is also available as a special edition disc. The Blu-ray also includes a 5.1 mix and a PCM Stereo mix. In addition to this Dolby Atmos mix on Blu-Ray there is also the deluxe edition of the original album (CD1) + the rarity “ The Way You Look Tonight “ included, the latter was only available on the Japanese version of the album and on the 2002 „Everybody Hertz“ mini-album.

CD2 contains three live versions from a 2001 KCRW session (L. A. radio station), „People in the City (Live at the Mayan Theater, Los Angeles, 2001)“ and four previously unreleased demo versions.

The Bottom Line

In the Dolby Atmos mix, this classic sounds new and almost as if one had never heard the album before. The spatiality is excellent, and the effects virtually flow towards the listener – or the listener floats into the effect zones in his mind’s eye.
