On May 13, 2022, Sine Music, the stirringly stylish label from Villingen-Schwenningen in the Black Forest, released the new single „Flatfields“ by Blooy. The single is available at all known download and streaming portals.
The landscape of the Netherlands is something very unique in itself. There are impressive cities like Amsterdam, but what is far more fascinating is the horizon that seems to spread out for hundreds of kilometers, completely undisturbed by hills or mountains.
A vast azure sky rises above the endless green meadows and the clouds slowly pass by until the horizon seems to merge with the sea. Holland’s landscapes are exceedingly beautiful and peaceful. Blooy’s new single „Flatfields“ is an ode to his homeland.
Under the Buttom Line
Blooy’s reggae-inspired lo-fi chillout track „Flatfields“ is like an admittedly quite short but relaxingly soothing musical short trip through the flat plains of the Netherlands and is excellent for train rides, especially in the Netherlands . But in 2:35 minutes, unfortunately, you will not get to go too far, but godzijdank the album will be released very soon hopefully . On the other hand, it is common practice in the lo-fi scene of weaving together track structures with a maximum running time of 3 minutes.
When I read in the label’s flyer that „Flatfields“ is a reggae-inspired track, I hardly wanted to believe it at first, because „Flatfields“ enchants foremost with piano carried softly touching chilling spring-evening air weather clouds. In the following, the listener is impressed with brilliantly arranged playful twang guitar lines – and it doesn’t even occur to you to think about how something has been influenced here.
But it’s true. It is undoubtedly a reggae epigone, but not in a disdainful sense, but rather in the sense of a perfectly formed implementation and shaping of the sujet. Blooy, the master in lo-fi chillout, understands like hardly anyone else how to unobtrusively alienate conventional song structures and let them shine in a supposedly completely new light according to his motto „less is more“.
„Flatfields“ is available in hi-res format in 24 bit / 44.1 kHz and sounds wonderfully detailed despite the lo-fi orientation, with very good spaciality and an otherwise extremely balanced frequency range.
